'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Ethan Galbraith continues contest with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he reminisces about the thrilling closing stages of Swansea's stunning fightback victory against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. The game wrapped up with Galbraith briefly donning a spectator's eyewear amid the pitch-side pile-on.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith struck the post with a powerful strike from 25 yards, and his teammate promptly converted the deflection before sprinting toward the East Stand to celebrate, with the crowd congregating around the players.

Remarkable Recovery

This completed an extraordinary comeback given Swansea had trailed 2-0 during the second half. During the euphoria, there was some unintended consequences. The midfielder recalled, "There was a fan trying to get our attention and Josh Key and I were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're individuals, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

The result secured a next round match at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, a team Galbraith ran close at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. He had an excellent perspective when the underdogs took the lead in remarkable manner, with the attacker's volley from about long distance going in via the bar and the opposition keeper. It feels criminal that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've credited him for having a go from that distance," says Galbraith, who began the game centrally before switching to right wing-back after the team changed formation. That meant competing with City's winger, with whom he traded tops, and the attacker was among the Manchester squad who paid tribute to the way Orient approached the match.

Opponent's Class

"Fitness-wise they are outstanding but even the simple things and basic skills, they can just execute repeatedly," the midfielder notes. "It seems as if they complete every delivery and they understand how to dictate and slow down a game. You can feel you're doing well and then abruptly they will just deliver a through ball between defenders without you even seeing. You have to be alert at all times of the game. It demands a resilient mindset and concentration just to stay in the game."

Swansea Move

Swansea pushed to sign Galbraith in January and secured his signature to sign him in the summer in a £1.5m deal. He established himself as a crowd pleaser across two seasons at Leyton Orient and has rapidly replicated that in Wales. At the London club he reunited with his former manager, who previously gave Galbraith his first extended run in senior football on loan at his loan club from United. Then came a temporary move at lower division the Manchester club, before he permanently left his boyhood club.

Learning Curve

"I was likely a bit naive going into professional soccer. I think numerous professionals would say under-23s football is entirely separate. Sometimes it seems possession is exchanged without much intensity. You see few tackles or duels. Once you start playing first-team football you have to adjust fast."

National Team Success

His progress reflects that growth for both domestically and internationally, performing well for his national side, who are fighting to qualify for the global tournament next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has been selected in the past five games, including home and away games against the German national team. His former international manager, Galbraith's previous international manager, offered the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he manipulates the ball and his ability to spot a game-changing assist.

Humble Beginnings

This marks a remarkable path for the kid from the neighborhood in Glengormley, just outside the capital, who used to see his parent, Stuart, also a midfielder, play for a local club.

Manchester United Experience

Galbraith's sole appearance for the Red Devils came in Central Asia in 2019, a continental tournament trip to the Kazakh capital, where they featured on an synthetic surface and the arena covering was shut owing to temperatures of -15C. "That proved to be a lengthy journey and it was cold out there," he says, chuckling. "The days leading up, the academy prospects worked out jointly, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to travel with the first team and make an appearance at the end was incredible."

Moving On

How difficult was it to depart Manchester United, the club he joined from Linfield aged a teenager? "The decision proved relatively straightforward, because I reached the point where I knew I wasn't going to make it at the top level. I'm extremely thankful for the experience gained but it became apparent where I believed I needed to go my own route, join a smaller club and play men's football. Now I'm slowly working my way back up."

Welsh Adaptation

This occurs during the early part of the afternoon at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has somewhere to be at 5pm: a road rules assessment, another step towards getting on the road. Until recently to the local area, the young professional was a regular in Swansea's nicknamed player transport, a minibus driven by club employees, the drivers, which shuttles players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"My companions include a teammate, another squad member, an Ivorian player – Melker Widell used to be in it but has started driving. It's pleasant to interact with the guys but I'm aiming to be the subsequent individual to drive independently and driving. Franco likes to pull a few pranks; he's frequently playing tricks."

Supporter Connections

While playing for his former club, Galbraith would mix with fans on public transport after commuting at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
